Birth Certificate Translation Services in Singapore

For PR, citizenship and LTVP, plan for the notarised version. ICA lists three routes: a translation by the embassy of the country that issued your certificate; a translation by a notary public in Singapore or in that country; or a private translation attested by that embassy or notarised. A company stamp alone is not on that list. Since 1 October 2019, a Singapore notarisation must also be authenticated by SAL. ICA does not endorse any private translation company.

Certified translation starts at S$40 a page. The ICA version with notary and SAL starts at S$202.20 for a 1-page certificate, and each extra page adds S$40, so a 2-page certificate is from S$242.20. Same-day translation adds S$20 a page for short documents sent before 11am on a weekday. Rare languages cost more. Send us the scan and you get a fixed, itemised price within an hour.

You do not need a separate step. When a Singapore notary signs your translation, SAL must authenticate it, and since 16 September 2021 it does this with an apostille. We arrange it, and the S$87.20 fee is included in our notarised price. No embassy step is needed for ICA. Embassy legalisation is only needed for some countries abroad, such as the UAE and Qatar.

No. ICA accepts only embassy or notary translations, or a private translation that is notarised or attested. A translation you made yourself, or a Google or AI translation, will be queried or rejected. Already have a translation done elsewhere? Send it with the original. We check it line by line first, then quote the notary and SAL steps, or a corrected translation if it needs one.

Yes, this is one of the most common jobs we do. We handle the old handwritten ones and the newer printed ones from Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara, including bilingual and Sarawak versions. Not for use inside Singapore. Singapore birth certificates are already in English. Births registered from 29 May 2022 get a digital certificate, downloaded from ICA's e-Service; older ones are on paper. You only need a translation when the certificate leaves the country, for example for a China visa, a Gulf visa or a foreign passport. Need an English birth extract instead? Usually yes, because the birth certificate proves the family link or your age. For an ICA file, such as an LTVP, a Pre-Marriage LTVP Assessment (PMLA) or a Student's Pass, plan for the notarised version. For a Dependant's Pass or a MOM LTVP, MOM accepts a certified translation. Schools usually accept a certified one too. Tell us which pass you are applying for and we will tell you which version you need.

Officers do compare them, and a different spelling slows things down. We never change what the certificate says. We follow your passport spelling where the original allows it, and add a short translator's note where it does not. Faded or old certificate? Send the clearest scan you can. Where a word truly cannot be read, we mark it as unclear in a translator's note instead of guessing.

A clear scan is enough to start, and your original stays with you. Notarised sets are made on paper because the notary signs a physical page. You also get a PDF of the full set to upload to ICA. Certified translations come as a signed PDF, with a paper copy on request. Collect from our office, or we courier it for a small fee. If ICA asks for a certified true copy of the original, we can arrange that too.
