Certified, Notarised or Apostilled ID Card Translation: Which One Do You Need?
There are three levels of official translation. The right one depends on who will read your card. Most people only need one level. Filing with ICA? You only need card 2.
1. Certified Translation (ROM, MOM, banks)
- Who signs it: Our translator and our company, with a signed statement that the translation matches the original.
- Used for: ROM marriage files, MOM work pass and Dependant's Pass files, banks, schools, employers, visa offices abroad.
- Time: 24 to 48 hours.
2. Notarised Translation
- Who signs it: A Notary Public in Singapore, after our translator signs the translation.
- Used for: ICA PR, citizenship, LTVP and LTVP+ files.
- Extra step: A Notary Public's signature in Singapore must then be authenticated by the Singapore Academy of Law (SAL). We arrange it, and the S$87.20 SAL fee is included.
- Time: 3 to 7 working days.
3. Going Abroad: Apostille or Embassy Legalisation
- Who signs it: SAL adds an apostille. Some countries also want their embassy's stamp.
- Used for: An NRIC copy or an ID translation going to an office abroad for a visa, bank, property or marriage file.

ID Card Translation From 200+ Languages Into English
Your card may be a Chinese resident identity card (居民身份证); an Indonesian KTP (Kartu Tanda Penduduk); a Malaysian MyKad, including Jawi notes; a Vietnamese citizen identity card (CCCD, now Căn cước) or an older CMND; a Myanmar National Registration Card (NRC, the pink card); a Thai national ID card (บัตรประจำตัวประชาชน); a Japanese My Number card (マイナンバーカード) or a Korean resident card (주민등록증); or an Indian Aadhaar, voter card or PAN card with regional script, a Bangladeshi NID or a Nepali citizenship card.

Singapore NRIC Translation for Overseas Use
Offices abroad may want your NRIC translated, notarised and apostilled. Here is what they usually ask for. A family card such as the Indonesian Kartu Keluarga or a Chinese hukou is handled on our household register translation page.
Work and Visa Files
China, Japan, Korea and the Gulf may ask for your NRIC in their own language. We translate it, a Notary Public signs it, and SAL apostilles it.
Gulf Countries
Saudi Arabia accepts the SAL apostille. The UAE and Qatar still want an Arabic translation plus embassy legalisation. We prepare the file in the right order.
Bank and Property Files
Malaysia and Indonesia often want a notarised NRIC copy. Malaysia is not in the Apostille Convention, so we check with the office whether it also wants an embassy stamp.
Study and Family Files
Some offices ask for a translation with a translator's affidavit of accuracy, sworn before a Notary Public in Singapore and then apostilled by SAL. Some embassies use their own list of translators, so we check with them first.
Good to Know
Singapore has no state-appointed sworn translators. A "sworn translation" means a translator's affidavit of accuracy, or a translator on an embassy's own list.

Does ICA accept a certified ID card translation, or must it be notarised?
For PR, citizenship and LTVP, a certified translation alone is not enough. ICA accepts an embassy translation, a notary's translation in Singapore or the issuing country, or a private translation that is notarised or embassy-attested. We do the notarised route for you. ROM and MOM accept a certified translation.

A clear photo of each side is enough to start, and your card stays with you. Notarised sets are made on paper because the notary signs a physical page. You also get a PDF of the full set to upload. Certified translations come as a signed PDF, with paper on request.
My card already has some English on it. Do I still need a translation?
Possibly. Cards such as Aadhaar or MyKad often leave the address, birthplace or notes in local script. If any part your office needs is not in English, it needs translating. Send a photo and we will check for free.
My card number and passport number are different. Which goes on the English page?
We copy the card number exactly as printed on the card. If an office may confuse it with your passport number, we add a short note that both documents belong to you.
My card has expired. Can you still translate it?
Yes. We translate the expiry date as printed. Whether an expired card is accepted is up to the office, so check with them first. Many offices prefer your current card.
I need my Chinese ID card in English for an Australian visa. Can you do it?
Yes. Australia accepts translations made outside Australia if the translator adds their full name, address, phone number and language qualifications and experience. Our certified translation includes these details, so no notary is needed for this.
Is my ID number safe with you? Do you use AI tools on my card?
Only the translator and the checker see your file. We do not upload your card to public AI or translation tools. We keep a copy for a short time in case you need a reprint, and delete it sooner if you ask.
