Singapore offers you several work permits and passes; one of those passes is a work permit for a confinement nanny. However, it is only for the Malaysians who are willing to visit Singapore to take care of the newborn baby for the first 16 weeks.

Eligibility for a Work Permit for Confinement Nanny in Singapore

Some of the eligibility requirements of both employer and nanny have to meet are as follows:

Eligibility criteria for the employer

To get eligible to hire a foreign nanny to take care of the newborn child, the employer needs to meet the following requirements:

  • It should be at least 21 years old. 
  • Applying for a newborn child should be four months old.

An employer might be capable enough to pay the monthly levy for the nanny:

  • If the newborn child for whom you are applying is a Singapore citizen, then the levy charged will be S$60 per month.

  • They will have to purchase the nanny medical insurance of at least S$15,000.
  • They will have to get a nanny work permit. 

Eligibility criteria for the confinement nanny

You get eligible to apply as a confinement nanny in Singapore if you meet the following mentioned criteria:

  • Your age should be in between 23 years to 70 years.

Conditions for Hiring a Confinement Nanny in Singapore

  • Nannies are not granted to work under any job, not even part-time. 
  • Nanny is only allowed to work in the residential address mentioned in the work permit. 
  • Until they are shifting to some other address during the day to take care of your newborn.

If any of the employers break the rules and choose to hire a confinement nanny illegally, they will be required to pay the fine of up to S$10,000.

If the employer hires a confinement nanny without issuing the work permit, they will have to pay the fine between S$5,000 and S$30,000, or even can have risk imprisonment for up to 1 year. 

How to Apply for a Work Permit for Confinement Nanny in Singapore?

Either your employer or any of the appointed employment agencies on behalf of the employer can apply for the work permit for the confinement nanny in Singapore. 

They can apply only:

  • Up to 16 weeks after the child is born 
  • Not less than four weeks before the child is born. 
  • The applications need to be submitted online. 

The application for receiving a work permit for a confinement nanny is Singapore are as follows:

  • You (the nanny) need to write a consent letter that states that she is agreeing to get employed and providing consent to submit an application. 
  • Either employer or any of the appointed employment agencies needs to sign in to the ministry of manpower’s E-service and complete the application form. 
  • They will be required to add all the needed documents. 
  • The application pay that needs to be paid by the employer is S$35. 
  • The minimum processing duration of the confinement nanny work permit is about one week.

  • It is not compulsory to get a medical examination. Still, it is recommended that every parents or employer should send the confinement nanny for the medical checkup to be on a safer side.

  • If the employer doesn’t own permanent residence or Singapore citizenship: they will require showing the employment/dependent pass or passport.

  • Physical copy of the educational certificate.

The Validity of the Work Permit for Confinement Nanny

You are granted to work as a confinement nanny in Singapore for a maximum of 16 weeks beginning from the newborn baby’s birth. This means that if you get employed at the employer residence after the child’s birth, then the work permit as a confinement nanny will be even shorter. 

Moreover, you will also get a single entry visit pass when you cross immigration. However, if the validity of the visit pass is shorter than the duration of the work permit, then the employer has to request the extension of your stay. 

Once the validity of your work permit comes to an end, or you are not working for them anymore. Then your employer has to sign in to the MOM’s eService and cancel it. Your employers need to cancel it either:

Within one week after you have stopped working for them. 

One after it expires. 

You are not granted to work in Singapore anymore if your employer has cancelled your work permit, no matter if you still have a valid visit pass. 

Is it Possible to Extend a Confinement Nanny Work Permit?

 No work permit for confinement nanny can’t be extended further. Moreover, when entering Singapore, you will receive a visitor pass from the immigration services that are shorter than your work permit. So your employer has to submit an application to extend your stay. Also, they will require submitting a request to increase your stay if you leave Singapore even after your work permit is still valid. That’s why your visit lass is only valid for one-time entry.

 An employer can submit a request to increase your stay through submit (MOM’s eService for work passes). However, they will also require submitting needed documents for extension of the stay:

  • Copies of your request letter: electronic or scanned.
  • Physical copy of your request letter either scanned or electronically.
  • Copy of your passport
  • Documents or letters for the issuance of your work permit.
  • Copy of your Disembarkation/Embarkation card.

 The time taken for extension of the confinement nanny’s stay takes up to 14 days, so ensure that you apply for the extension in advance. Else you will need to leave Singapore if your visit pass gets expired before receiving an extension.

 Even after your 16 days are over, you still wish to work for your employer; you will have to apply for a work permit for a domestic worker.

 Cancel Confinement Nanny Work Permit

 It is essential for the employer to note that before a single entry visit pass expires, the confinement nanny needs to leave Singapore. The employer( themselves) or you have appointed any of the certified employment agency to cancel the work permit of the confinement lady if her employment ended or her work permit expire even before it expires. The levy charged will be until the eve of the cancellation.
